Dune 2000 review. (PC)

December 28, 2008 By: Govvy Category: Games No Comments →

Although this is simply a clone of Command & Conquer there is nothing wrong with the game. Well it plays exactly the same, the units are based on C&C units, all the items and buildings have a relationship to everything that is Command & Conquer. There is very little addition in the way of gameplay, well in fact, there is no addition in the way of gameplay!

The only true different thing has to be the cinematic’s of which they have a selection of actors playing the roles of whom? I am not sure where they wanted to go with the game, it seems far from the books and all about the quest for Dune.

Speaking of the cinematics, well Atredies was okay, but the Ordos is terrible, the guy that is acting the part… well he looks like a borg and plays the most boring of characters! At least there is Brian Blessed on Atredies to keep me company.

I do like playing know, but C&C was always a good game, so a copy of a good game just makes an average game. There is nothing great or bad, it’s just average and frankly that is boring! The only element I like watching is a worm swallowing a tank or two.

It is very hard to finish the game, I managed to complete the Harkonnen campaign but the other two I didn’t even finish. I just found the final missions far to hard.

So the graphics are good, the music is fine, the terrain is the same and that makes it rather boring also. I do like building up the base and sending massive armies to go kill the A.I. But to anyone that reads this I will tell them to stick to the Dune novels and stick to the real Command & Conquer series. No point in playing an adventure here, not worth wasting your time like I did.

Transporter 3 review.

December 14, 2008 By: Govvy Category: Films No Comments →

The Transporter returns for a third instalment and it’s probably the best. Jason Statham who plays the character Frank Martin with fast cars, sporty women and a kick even Bruce Lee would be proud of.

It seems a friend of Frank had a delivery gone bad and the package which Frank could have had ends up being his no-so bargain of the week. So it ends up with a chase on the clock and for some reason the travel time seems to either be wrong or I am not calculating correctly. Either way I am pretty sure you can’t travel that fast across Europe in a car.

Well the package, about 5”6” ginger hair a little freckly but she grows on you. In fact she is cute when you get use to her. As the story unfolds and you work out who the bad guys are, the action starts to explode on the screen.

There is some pretty impressive fight scenes and the car racing scenes are pretty crazy too. But using a car against the train! That certainly is something to see. The acting is not that bad considering I thought it would be terrible and the lead actress Natalya Rudakova actually played her part really well.

There was something for everyone in the movie, action, computers, cars, fighting and love! It was pretty full to the brim. This is some good entertainment for a rainy day out.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard book review.

December 14, 2008 By: Govvy Category: Books No Comments →

J.K Rowling who wrote the Harry Potter series told of a children’s fairy tales book called Tales of Beedle the Bard in which there was one story in the tales based on the actual ancestors of Harry. The tale being at the end of the book spoke of the three brothers who met death himself and tried to evade him. But as the story is told, death can never truly be evaded.

The rest of the book with it’s other tales are very basic in description and have the addition of analyst notes from Dumbledore himself. There is not much to reflect on or understand as the stories in their own way have very simplistic in meaning.

In some ways I can understand the book and wanting to own it because I loved the Harry Potter novels, but in many ways I am very disappointed with it. Although I went to the end of the book first to read the final story and there isn’t anything new in my opinion. What is there has already been said in the final book, The Deathly Hallows.

There is very little entertainment value at best but at least I can take condolence that the money is going to charity.
