The Golden Compass (Northern Lights)
Philip Pullman’s novel The Northern Lights has been brought to life on the blue screen and I loved every minute of it. Even the pathetic guy that works in the cinema at Be’er Sheva’s Canyon complex didn’t make me feel that bad. (I still wanted to break his neck know!)I had a blues moment there. For he told me not to put my foot on the seat! My foot hardly touched the seat in front!
Back to the film, which had a cast of top notch actors and actresses, can anything go wrong? But nothing went wrong. All played excellent roles, Nicole Kidman was playing a mean character again and played it superbly. The animation, effects where of high quality. The blue screen didn’t bring down the acting at all. I was drawn in to this lovely film and it gave me a sense of power.
If you didn’t know, the world as you know it, the realm created by Pullman each person has a pet daemon, an extension of the soul. To which him or her can talk too, converse and learn from each other. This design is in danger of an element called dust and is the subject of how to save this existence from a possible evolution.
This is a story of a mans imagination and we are free to imagine and see what we wish. I enjoyed it and appreciate it. But for the life of me I can’t understand why American Christian groups were trying to boycott the film. Do you want to burn a creation? I don’t think they have a right to do that and I think they should go back to wasting their time praying too that which you can’t control.
So a beautiful well crafted film, crazy battle scenes a story which does make sense no matter what some might say. A cast of excellent quality and acting that supports them. I am giving this one five stars.
