England World Cup plans are Muller’ed.

June 27, 2010 By: Govvy Category: Football No Comments →

I knew we couldn’t win this world cup, simply on the basis of bad decisions. Some say Fabio Capello is ruthless, I say he really doesn’t know the English premiership that well. If you are going to be England manager, you must have Premier League experience. Simple on the basis, know the players you are picking.

We made it to face Germany, but it was a slog, only to be humiliated. Players such as Emile Heskey and Matthew Upson placed into the World Cup squad when they really haven’t done enough to warrant inclusion. A player of Michael Dawson who has the quality wasn’t even given the chance. Gerrard played out of play on the left side and to be honest, he was pretty shit. As a captain? I didn’t see that which was needed. Maybe next time Lampard can be captain. Heskey and Rooney didn’t gel well at all throughout the competition and Heskey continued to unimpress along with Capello including a useless player in the squad! Why?

The next problem is Joe Cole, he is a good player, plays really well on the left side, so you put him on the right? That’s way out of position Mr Capello!

As for the few that stand out, James Milner played well and Ashley Cole worked his socks off, for most of the others, I didn’t see much that I would want at White Hart Lane. Lampard had a good go, having that goal disallowed is a very strong call for goal line technology. But that isn’t going to help a very poor campaign I just hope the Euro’s will be better and by that point someone else is in charge.

Harry Redknapp for England Manager

November 22, 2007 By: Govvy Category: Football No Comments →

I am supporting Harry Redknapp for England Manager. I think all those English fans out there should all support it. At this moment in time he is the best candidate for the job. And the most important thing is that he is English!!

So please FA, pick Harry. :)

Hapoel Tel Aviv 0-2 Tottenham

November 10, 2007 By: Govvy Category: Football, Israel - Kibbutz No Comments →

It was only after Liverpool won 8-0 that I decided to go see the game in Tel Aviv. I knew it would be easy enough to get to the venue and watch. I thought after Liverpool, Tottenham might do me proud also. They won, but it wasn’t in the fashion I was looking for. I was expecting more flair with that touch of genious I saw last season. There was a glimpse or two in the first half and a little in the second half but not much at all.

The two goals looked good, but really where off the run of play and our £16.3 million player Darren Bent is now worth 6 Sheckals for missing the open goal! Maybe the new manager can find some better players to help strengthen a squad which at the moment looks weak.

I think because both clubs have been performing poorly in the leagues they lacked in spirit. Although the Hapoel fans seemed in good spirits their team certainly wasn’t and I was a fair bit frustrated with the overall play. I was more interested in talking to the fans I was sitting next too and finding out that most of the Spurs faithful live in Israel and only 70 fans came from England.

Security

The ground had been closed all week prier to the game and there was constant sweeps of the stadium by the police. But I would have to say that next to English clubs and the amount of police you see there was very small. I don’t think you would get much problems considering the amount of military effort that goes to containing problems in the state of Israel. But you can never be too sure. I also find it sad that not many people came from England too the match. But I was more than happy with the Spurs turn out.

Attendance

On bbc.co.uk and soccernet.com they say the attendance of the match was 10,000 and I truly find it hard to believe that could be that accurate. I was there and there where empty seats and I would have to say there was certainly more that a pocket of 500 English fans! Even on wikipedia.org it says Bloomfield Stadium has 15700 and I would have too say there couldn’t of been more than 8,000 at the ground. My estimate if I made it would be around 7,500 in attendance. So can someone do a recount please!

Barnet Council should be investigated.

October 10, 2007 By: Govvy Category: Football No Comments →

I think it’s about time to have an investigation into Barnet Council on this whole affair with Barnet FC stadium. The news on BBC makes me think there is problems with the idiots currently in the council dealing with the issue. It’s about time some govvy types step in to deal with the mess. I for one think it’s about time to let some improvements happen at the ground.

Spurs sign Bent from Charlton

June 29, 2007 By: Govvy Category: Football No Comments →

I was hoping this wasn’t going to happen, unfortunately it did happen! Spurs have signed Darren Bent from Charlton Athletic and I am unhappy for two main reasons. The first being! What a rip off! If he was good enough Charlton would of survived relegation. I swear that Spurs have paid way too much, he is not rated £16 million, he is rated more like £3 million in my book. I fail to see how he can be as good as either Robbie Keane or Dimitar Berbatov  let alone compete for a place with Jermain Defoe in the squad either.

I see a massive waste of money and a player who I don’t think will make the right impact. All in all, I see one of the worse deals of the season already. Don’t get me wrong, he might do well and surprise us all. But in my book, not what I wanted to see.
